How LLL Started

In 1957 when La Leche League was formed, only 20% of American mothers breastfed. This group was formed by 7 women who felt the medical system was unsupportive of breastfeeding and giving misinformation as well. The main founder, Marion White, was the wife of a doctor and he agreed that the medical field was not offering breastfeeding support to new mothers. By the year 2000, LLL was international, in 61 countries, with more than 3,000 groups in the USA.
